Monotype by Ann Conte.

It was back in 2007 that Bob and Elaine Cunniff organized the Coastal Printmakers and now our most recent Coastal Printmaker Invitational Exhibit has over 60 original prints all hanging at the South Shore Conservatory in Hingham, MA.   This is one of the exhibit spaces managed by the South Shore Art Center.

Within the exhibit are an array of creative and thought provoking pieces.  Several of the prints are monotypes which lend themselves to a painterly style that merges abstraction and realism.

While hanging the exhibit I was able to sneak in a couple of shots.  These three monotypes by Trish Berube are gorgeously organic with a looseness of texture and incredible details.

Collographs by Joan Hausrath.

Collographs by Joan Hausrath.

Joan Hausrath has included some of her collographs that have a primitive and tribal theme with a skill of printmaking that lends itself to her subject matter.  Joan is offering a Collograph and Monoprint Workshop this July at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA.  I’m a fan!

These intriguing pieces by Roxane Hynek are mesmerizing and beautiful in their simplicity.

Thanks to all the Coastal Printmakers, the So. Shore Art Center, the So. Shore Conservatory and all our volunteers that made this exhibit possible.  This is a printmaking exhibit not to be missed with several fine art prints that are the efforts of local artists.  All of the pieces are originals and available for purchase through the So. Shore Art Center.  The best way to appreciate art is to see it in person.

This exhibit runs through September 30th, 2014 and is located at the So. Shore Conservatory at 1 Conservatory Drive in Hingham, MA  02043.

Botanica

Botanica received the SSAC 2013 Farbush Color Prize.

Father’s Day Weekend is a significant time for me as there are a few events that I’m involved with and a great time of the year to be out and about.  Firstly, it’s an honor and thrill for me to receive the Farbush Color Prize in the Members Show that will be on display at the South Shore Arts Festival from June 14-16, 2013.  Another monotype entitled ‘Lunar Garden’ was selected for the Juried Exhibition.  This festival is worth the trip as there is a wide variety of art, high-quality craft vendors and activities.

Monotype entitled 'The Storm Blew the House to Houston'. is on display in the Crossen Gallery.

While attending the Arts Festival make sure you make the trek to the South Shore Arts Center building to see the current SSAC Faculty Show and intriguing photographs by Robert Avakian.   While there seek out the Crossen Gallery upstairs where two of my monotypes are on display in the ‘Under Pressure Printmaking Exhibit’.   This is little hidden treasure of an exhibit that includes a wide variety of original prints that were created by artists working under the tutelage of Esther Maschio.  You’ve heard of the ”Underground Artists’…  well we’re the ‘Upstairs Artists’.  Just run up the stairs and see what we’re all about-you won’t be disappointed as there is no better way to see original artwork than in person!

Braintree Farmers Market 2013.

Braintree Farmers Market 2013.

One of my pet projects in also opening on Fathers Day Weekend and that’s the Braintree Farmers Market.  This has been one of my most complex yet rewarding projects ever…  There are so many facets to organizing a farmers’ market and it involves a whole community to make it happen.  Join us as farmers and food artisans come together with their harvest of lush & delicious foods that are as inspiring to look at as eat and it’s good for your health too.  The market opens on Saturday,  June 15th, and operates every Saturday from 9 to 1 at the Braintree Town Hall, One JFK Memorial Drive, Braintree, MA.  Like us on facebook to get our updates.

Detail from a recent monotype entitled Lunar Garden.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming Moonstruck exhibit presented by Coastal Printmakers-a local group of dedicated Boston South Shore printmakers.  Above is a detail of the monotype that I am submitting entitled Lunar Garden which was pulled just this past Monday.  It’s currently being framed at Stanhope Framers with a very contemporary, hand-crafted frame.  To see the rest of the print please visit the exhibit which runs from Oct. 5th thru 30th, 2012, at the James Library and Center for the Arts in Norwell, MA.  Meet local printmakers at the Opening Reception on Oct. 5th, from 6 to 8 p.m.

My personal pieces have been evolving for the past few years-maybe it’s my Saturn returning?  My love for printmaking has drawn me in and my work has taken a focus on botanicals and gardening.  Einstein has a quote that resonates with me-“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better”.  My goal is to get lost in the moment to create art that comes from my spirit.  One of my greatest inspirations is Cy Twombly and his great paintings and photographs.  Currently there are two exhibits of his at the Gagosian Gallery in New York.  The simplicity and beauty shine through.
